Naming

There are several opinions about the origin of the name of Sirajdikhan. Among the more acceptable opinions two of them are as below:

  1. From ‘The Janmabhumi’, a monthly news paper edited by Babu Girish Chandra Bashu ,we come to know that Nawab Sirajdullah once came to take his father to Murshidabad and travelled through Pathorghata (Sirajdikhan). And Sirajdikhan was named after his name.
  2. During the reign of Emperor Jahangir, Sujat Ali, the fore father of the khans who lived Rajdia, a village near Sirajdikhan, came to protect  the East Bengal from the pirates of Aracan accordinng to a royal decree. They settled themselves at Rajdia by the side of the Ichhamoti. Sirajuddin, the fourth generation of the khans, was a very spiritual and God fearing person. Leaving his family and country, he roamed about in different places and achieved spiritualism. Then he set up an abode in a jungle far from the river Ichhamoti. He along with his four companions would devote himself in the worship of Allah. After the death of this extraordinary spiritual saint, this area was named after his name.
